What is Osteopathy and how does it differ from physiotherapy or chiropractic care?

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on therapy focusing on the musculoskeletal system—muscles, joints, and nerves—to improve overall health and relieve pain.

  • Physiotherapy often centres on exercise rehabilitation.

  • Chiropractic care tends to focus on spinal adjustments.

  • Osteopathy uses a blend of mobilisation, massage, and manipulation to address the root cause of discomfort naturally.

Treatments at Alleviate Holistics are tailored to each individual across Colchester, Wickford, and Essex.

Is Osteopathy suitable for all ages, including babies and the elderly?

Absolutely. Osteopathy is safe and effective for all age groups.

  • Gentle, non-invasive techniques such as cranial osteopathy are ideal for newborns and children.

  • Older adults benefit from improved mobility, reduced arthritis pain, and enhanced well-being.

What conditions can Osteopathy treat effectively?

Osteopathy can support:

  • Back, neck, and joint pain

  • Arthritis and sciatica

  • Sports injuries

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Muscle tension and spasms

  • Neuralgia

  • Digestive and circulatory issues

  • Pre/post-natal symptoms

  • Infant feeding support

What techniques are used during Osteopathy sessions?

Emily tailors each session using a combination of:

Each technique supports your body’s natural healing while restoring movement and relieving pain.

What is Dry Needling and how does it help?

Dry needling involves placing fine, sterile needles into tight muscle spots (trigger points) to:

  • Release tension

  • Relieve pain

  • Improve blood flow

It is especially effective for sports injuries, spasms, and chronic pain—and works beautifully alongside osteopathy.

Do you offer Cranial Osteopathy for babies and children?

Yes. Cranial osteopathy is a gentle method used to:

  • Soothe unsettled behaviour

  • Support feeding difficulties

  • Improve sleep patterns

  • Alleviate colic and other concerns

All treatments are delivered with safety, care, and compassion.

Savannah is an amazing teacher and guide during her lessons and workshops. I try to go to as many as I can as they're one of the most relaxing and calming things I've done in years. Savannahs knowledge and understanding of yoga is astonishing and really makes you feel like you're in the right hands. Savannah is also very kind and gentle and always finds alterations for poses. She makes me feel very comfortable and welcomed during sessions. Her sound bowls are something else. I have recommended her to as many people as I can think of who would love and benefit from her practice.

My wife and I have been seeing holly for over two years and I can't recommend her highly enough. She's very approachable, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Holly has helped us both with a range of injuries, both new and long-standing, and she always takes time to understand the problem and explain the treatment clearly. Thanks to her support, we've been able to recover faster and manage ongoing issues much better. A fantastic sports injury therapist who genuinely cares about her clients.

I booked with Holly for a sports massage when I started getting pain in my lower back and shoulder blade due to sports and daily habits. Before we started the massage, I was asked to complete a few simple mobility movements to assess points of discomfort and range of flexibility When the treatment began, I was satisfied with how informed I was kept throughout. Being reassured and checked on to make sure I was not too uncomfortable. I was given a full run through of the stretches and after care at the end of the session to make sure |looked after the areas that had been treated. The email I received of stretches were listed in detail and were very easy to follow. Holly was happy enough to answer a couple of follow up questions about certain stretches after the treatment and how to keep an eye on my posture to help with future back problems. I was very pleased with my sessions throughout and have highly recommended Holly to a number of friends, colleagues and family members.

Ayurveda
I always thought I lived a pretty healthy lifestyle, but when I started getting these random skin flare-ups, I didn’t want to rely on harsh creams or medications. That’s what led me to look into Ayurveda. When I found Savannah and read about her background, I had a feeling I’d be in good hands... and I was right. From the start, she had me fill out a really in-depth intake form. Honestly, some of the questions felt kind of random at the time, and I wasn’t sure why they were being asked. But when we got to the consultation, she completely shocked me with how she connected everything. She explained how things like my anxiety, mood, digestion, and skin were all linked, and it actually made so much sense. She helped me understand my unique constitution and how it’s affected by things like the seasons, environment, and even my daily routine . It was wild, like I was suddenly looking at myself through this new lens. Since seeing her, not only has my skin calmed down drastically, but my mind feels way more settled too. She gave me so much support and so many resources (not just during the session, but even after), and i never felt pressure to do everything perfectly, she always said 'baby steps'. She recommended herbs, grounding practices, and even specific foods and spices to support my body and even alternatives if I wasn't keen on something. She's even got me loving using a Neti pot to help my hayfever! I’ve cut down on things like red meat and dairy, started eating more fresh veg and using Ayurvedic herbs, and I’ve genuinely felt such a shift. I’ve also been using her tips to help with sleep and stress, and it’s actually kind of crazy how I’m now naturally tuning into what I need and connecting the dots just like she said I would. Another thing that really stood out was how safe and seen I felt during the sessions. Savannah never made me feel like anything I said was stupid or like I was a problem to be fixed. She listened without judgment, and everything I brought up, even things I’d always brushed off as “just how I am”, she treated with so much care Working with Savannah has honestly been a game-changer. I’m already looking forward to our next session to keep building on everything.

Savannah is a fantastic teacher and yogi. Her knowledge is incredibly deep and powerful, and she has a clear respect for all aspects of yoga. I find her sessions to be extremely calming, and I really look forward to them, especially after more stressful days. I've also been to some of her workshops, and they are amazing. Her use of sound bowls and instruments combined with her other teachings really makes the workshops feel special and like nothing I've been to before. If you're looking for an authentic and kind yoga teacher, who will also make you laugh, I can't stop recommending Savannah. I've also noticed my anxiety settles, and I feel so much calmer in the days after Savannah's sessions.

Sports Therapy
It would not be hyperbole to say that the care, treatment and support Holly Flint has provided me over the years has been life-changing. I hadn’t seen myself as necessarily someone who would need Sports Therapy, as my sports days are decades behind me. But through a combination of yo-yoing weight and sitting in a chair 12–14 hours a day, as the CEO of a successful game studio, my body has taken a beating. Before working with Holly I had days where I could barely walk due to pain, tightness and discomfort in my right hip. I’m still doing those long days in a chair, but the treatment Holly has provided me allows me to spend the day not in pain, and to be active with my 2-year-old when I get home. Holly’s approach goes beyond just what she does when you’re on the table. She provided a custom exercise plan for my hip, and helped me to adjust when I wasn’t getting on well with certain stretches and exercises. Holly’s execution is only matched by her knowledge, and the very clear drive for always improving that knowledge that she has. I cannot recommend Holly highly enough, and I know that whenever I have wear and tear that is giving me recurring pain and discomfort she is the first person I call.

I was a bit skeptical about Ayurveda at first, as I’d never really heard of it before. But after having a consultation with Savannah, that completely changed. She took the time to fully explain everything in a way that made sense and instantly put me at ease. Since then, she’s drastically helped me manage my menopause symptoms and digestion. I’m honestly so glad I found her.

After struggling with recurring hamstring tightness and a strain that had been holding me back for months, I booked a session with Holly. Holly took the time to understand what caused the issue and obtain a comprehensive history of my injury. With a combination of sports massage and tailored exercises and stretches, she helped me rebuild stability, confidence and prevent the problem from returning. Holly empowered me to apply kinesiology tape myself to my hamstring injury, so I could continue to play my sport. Communication was clear throughout, explanations of the exercises and stretches as well as rest time were very clear and I felt like I could ask questions and clarify if needed. Holly was reassuring and made me feel comfortable throughout treatment with clear grounding in clinical knowledge. She has also kindly followed up on my recovery making sure things were going well. them to friends and I would happily seek out her services again and recommend family.

As I get older I hurt more but Savannah’s classes keep me moving and get me through the week. I’ve been with her for about 2 years and she’s great. She adjusts a move if I can’t do it and she puts her heart and soul into her workouts. She has 1 to 1 classes online so if I can’t make a class, I can work with her online. Highly recommended

Emily has been incredible with my daughter! I learnt so much from her (things that my health visitors had not seen/ doctors too) that allowed me to also seek further help regarding tongue tie and belly button hernia. Emily’s work has helped my daughter go from being sick everyday (projectile) and holding wind to a normal little human. I would definitely recommend Emily to everyone that has a baby! Being born can be traumatic on a baby and Emily was able to help my daughter with alignment issues (I didn’t even see until it was shown to me) this helped ease day to day life as was contributing to feeding issues. Incredibly professional, informative and wonderful to speak to for advice without judgement or pressure. Emily was very calming, friendly and professional. Our baby was so relaxed at each session too which was a rarity at the time. Thank you, Emily! Cannot recommend you enough.

I have visited Holly a number of times for both injury treatment and sports massage for general back aches. With a knee injury she found the problem, eased pain, made recommendations for recovery and prevention as well as ongoing exercises. She checked in to see how I was doing. I found her approach to be professional, friendly and really caring. I also have required deep tissue massages for general back aches. I have found regular massages have kept niggles at bay and helped me live more comfortably. Her recommendation to do yoga for both back and knee has helped massively with mobility, strength and wellbeing. I have recommended Holly to others and will continue to do so as I find her to be a wonderful sports therapist. Her professionalism, attention to detail and ongoing care is brilliant. Thank you for all of your help!

I’ve seen Savannah a few times now for support both my digestion and navigating menopause (which she linked together immediately), and I honestly can’t recommend her enough. She has such a deep understanding and offers advice that actually works - without ever making you feel like there’s something wrong with you. She’s kind, supportive, and really listens. I’ve been using her herbal recommendations and following the lifestyle guidance she suggested, and I’m feeling so much better in myself - more balanced, more comfortable, and just more me again. She’s also helped with all the little day-to-day things you wouldn’t expect - bug bites, sunburn, skin flare-ups - things I’d usually reach for drugstore solutions for, but now I have natural alternatives that actually work. She’s gently helped me realise that some of the products I was using were likely making my symptoms worse, and the best part is there’s never any judgement - just support. And it’s not just me she’s helped! Savannah has even supported my rescue dog with Ayurvedic care - helping with his dry skin, tummy issues, and boosting his health. Honestly, she’s become my go-to for so much. I feel incredibly lucky to have found her.
